Starting with their science curriculum they are going to use an online textbook as their primary instructional tool for grades 4th and 5th to start out. The "techbook" which it is called has many great opitions including a complete science course, multiple digital modes of instruction, videos and virtual lab experiments as well. The framework of the "techbook" is inquiry based and correlated to Oregons Science Curriculum Standards. Within their district they have many ELL learners and they feel the virtual and videos are great resources in helping those students.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"28017533","body":"Way to post in the wrong spot :)","dateCreated":"1286308054","smartDate":"Oct 5, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"GinaLouden","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/GinaLouden","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1286307703\/GinaLouden-lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]},{"id":"28017257","dateCreated":"1286307763","smartDate":"Oct 5, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"amymiller3","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/amymiller3","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/educ300.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/28017257"},"dateDigested":1532767909,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Response to 3D Awakens the Classroom","description":"I have never thought about using 3-D to help children learn however I think this is a great way to get students interested in the material being presented. \nThe popular personal computer making company Dell has promised to donate $10 million worldwide to educational technology initiatives. Over 70% of the money will be given to underdeveloped countries. This is coming from the Dell YouthConnect initiative, which is working towards the goal of ensuring universal primary education by 2015. The goal behind Dell YouthConnect is teaching 21st-century skills so students can be educated adults and fight against hunger, poverty, and social oppression.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"28017251","body":"I don't understand why they would send so much money to underdeveloped countries when the United States is having enough trouble funding technology in their own schools.","dateCreated":"1286307758","smartDate":"Oct 5, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"AmyPage","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/AmyPage","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1286307565\/AmyPage-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"28017395","body":"Because they are trying to get everyone educated on the same level so we can have educated adults working together all over the world towards the same goals.","dateCreated":"1286307903","smartDate":"Oct 5, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"GinaLouden","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/GinaLouden","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1286307703\/GinaLouden-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"28017577","body":"I think thats a very generous amount to offer, but they are probably benefiting more from the donating as a tax write off.","dateCreated":"1286308105","smartDate":"Oct 5, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"Abbey.Perez","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Abbey.Perez","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"28027933","body":"Rachel Trythall
\nI really like the idea of sending money to underdeveloped countries so would have educated adults across the world, like Gina said. However, I also agree with Amy. There are many "underdelevoped schools" in America that aren't receiving the help they decereve and the children aren't receiving the educational benefits that they deserve.
