\nMy article is called, "Social Networking or Social Suicide" and I found it on the Tech and Learning website. As an avid Facebook user, this article caught my eye. Could something so popular such as Facebook actually be hurting your social reputation? This article explains that aside from our genetic DNA, we actually have a Virtual DNA (vDNA) which is not made up of genetic traits, but instead information provided by your social circle. The article explains that as teachers, we need to explain that everything posted to social network sites is public information, regardless of your privacy settings. It also reminds us to be polite and respectful citizens online, just as we would in our real lives. As teachers, we might be using these social networking sites as well as our students. Therefore, we need to be very careful of what we are posting online so if our students would come across it, it wouldn't change student's opinion of us as teachers.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"28291299","body":"I think that it could be ruining some peoples social reputation because it is displayed on a wall that can be seen by many people. The information and pictures on the interent are public. If it is something that you would not want displayed on a billboard don't post it on the internet. Very interesting article.","dateCreated":"1286832147","smartDate":"Oct 11, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"rbartholmy","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/rbartholmy","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]},{"id":"28017189","dateCreated":"1286307680","smartDate":"Oct 5, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"Abbey.Perez","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Abbey.Perez","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/educ300.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/28017189"},"dateDigested":1532768327,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Oregon District Goes Digital for Elementary Science Texts","description":"Throughout the article they discuss how the Ontario school district is implementing technology within their schools. Starting with their science curriculum they are going to use an online textbook as their primary instructional tool for grades 4th and 5th to start out. The "techbook" which it is called has many great opitions including a complete science course, multiple digital modes of instruction, videos and virtual lab experiments as well. The framework of the "techbook" is inquiry based and correlated to Oregons Science Curriculum Standards. Within their district they have many ELL learners and they feel the virtual and videos are great resources in helping those students.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"28017569","body":"This sounds like a great idea; however, what happens with students who do not have internet access in their home? It is not fair for these students to not be able to access the book at home. It might be very difficult for them to study for tests or complete assignments without the textbook. On the plus side, online textbooks probably save a ton of money for the school as they don't need to purchase textbooks for each individual child.

I think that students would like the videos and virtual lab experiments. If this was all things that students could do at school that would help because some students do not have access to computers at home. I am not a big fan of reading on the internet and I like to have a hard copy because it hurts my eyes. I think that this might be what we will see in the future textbooks.","dateCreated":"1286831780","smartDate":"Oct 11, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"rbartholmy","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/rbartholmy","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]},{"id":"28017063","dateCreated":"1286307546","smartDate":"Oct 5, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"amymiller3","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/amymiller3","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/educ300.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/28017063"},"dateDigested":1532768327,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Response to \"It's all in the Preparation\"","description":"As a student I was always "too cool" for online practice tests even though I know now how beneficial they are. I think this would be a great way for students to work with there parents and maybe even earn rewards by sharing their scores. Teachers could also use this system, maybe using extra credit as an incentive.
